intervista a SergisonBates architects
Podcast dell’intervista realizzata a Jonathan Sergison e Stephen Bates in occasione di London Architecture, incontro realizzato presso l’Università Iuav di Venezia il 10 Novembre 2006.
Intervista
1. There is a famous picture, taken at the beginning of the 20th century: a portrait showing some of the master to become of the modern architecture (including Mies van der Rohe, Adolf Meyer, Walter Gropius) at Peter Behrens’ studio. It seems that still today some of the most the promising european architects have had similar working experiences in well-known architectural firms: p.e. at David Chipperfield in London, or Alvaro Siza and Eduardo Souto Moura in Oporto. What do you think has changed in the education of an architect in the last decades?
2. How important were your previous working experiences at the moment of establishing Sergison-Bates firm in London? Are there any important changes or differences you introduced in your practice method?
3. Do you think that progressive specialization is necessary to start working? Or do you think the architect is a general professional, often contaminated by other disciplines?
4. The AA school seems to be keeping a leading role in architectural education not only in UK, but also in Europe. An avant-guard way of teaching, based on conceptual models, very different from our learning approach. Which are the relations between this approach and your working method?
